On Leadership-3

The longer we wait to take action, the harder it is to get started. Circumstances will never be perfect and waiting until they are is the same as going nowhere. The truth is, it will probably never get any easier to move forward and every moment that we hold back will just make things worse.
Momentum is one of the greatest examples of the Law of Attraction at work. Powerful thoughts are followed by other powerful thoughts. Powerful actions are followed by other powerful actions. We see it in the world around us every day.
Momentum is an object moving forward at a fast pace because of the force or the momentum creating speed. This is a popular term used in leadership discussions. Leaders like to use the term momentum to describe the ease of change because the people are highly motivated to move in the direction that the leaders want their people to move in.
It can carry you like a strong current carries a fallen leaf. It can ground you like an early morning walk through the woods. It can move you like wind moves a cloud across the summer sky. It can ignite your spirit and make you feel like you can do anything. Momentum can surge you forward and it can pull you under. It goes with your flow, follows your lead and enhances your chances. By weaving your ongoing success into your visualization practice you can accelerate momentum even more.
That one success of starting morning walking led to another success … and then another. I took up little bit small exercise.  I became a careful eater and the dumped the junk food. Started feeling like getting into new area of choices.
Like a cricketer who possess the intelligence and awareness to understand when momentum is shifting or has changed. There are many triggers that change momentum, from the roar of the crowd, or chant. The noise of crowd does not have to adversely affect performance but enhance.
Let momentum ignite you:
Once you feel it is growing, let momentum fan the fire inside you – a fire that may have been burnt out or smouldering under the surface for a long time. Let yourself feel love and passion towards yourself, your life and everything you do then begin to recover, uncover or discover your true potential. If often leaps out of the flames.
Let momentum push & pull you: Take that first step in a direction of your own choosing, then with each bold statement, each strong strides, each clear-thinking choice let momentum joyously lift you higher and farther. Exceed your own expectations and strengthen your resolve to be who you were meant to be and nothing less. Don’t strive and stress – instead simplify and find success on your terms.
STRUCTURED-ANNUITY-SETTLEMENT
Managing the Momentum:
Stay present and keep in the moment:  Win a point, don’t try to win the match.
Keep your effort consistent and hard: Don’t relax when you ahead or don’t push too hard when you’re behind. One step, one point, one stroke at a time.
That is the power of MOMENTUM. Think about it, whenever you start something new for the first time or decide to embark on a new challenge or pursue a new ...sport, hobby, and business anything under the sun.
Create a vision and never let the environment, other people's beliefs, or the limits of what has been done in the past shape your decisions. Ignore conventional...
Much better to swim with the current and the then find an exit. Momentum is like a current, We need to stay calm, relaxed.
That is the power of MOMENTUM. Think about it, whenever you start something new for the first time or decide to embark on a new challenge or pursue a new ...sport, hobby, business anything under the sun.

On Leadership-2

We all one or other time faced with crises or struggle. Wasn’t it or not. That situation causes hopelessness.  But it’s in this despair situation the best opportunities emerge. If we can  keep our eyes and mind open.
No matter what type of situation you are in, or what type of crises you lead, one of the keys that will determine the outcome is your mental attitude. If we see it as a problem with no hope, then definitely it is no hope situation. But we can find a new way you couldn’t have imagined before the crisis presented itself. It allows us to practice patience and acceptance and find renewed hope — which is the most beautiful thing.
A crisis is an opportunity to change grow learn reflect and become better. It’s where we discover who we are and how we can find a new way we couldn't have imagined before the crisis presented itself. It allows us to practice patience and acceptance and find renewed hope — which is the most beautiful thing.
Say a loss job; it was an opportunity for reinvention and to strike out on my own.

MORTGAGE=ADVISER
Ten years back when I've to leave my job in US and return to India because of my father’s health it was an opportunity to reflect on that loved one’s wonderful life and for our family to come together in a way never possible before. I never thought what I am going to do?
All I knew at the time was that if I could quit job after twenty years of experience, I could do anything. That’s what momentum feels like. (Word from Dalai Lama-pic)
When I moved and missed my job terribly it was an opportunity to learn introspection and self-sufficiency and grow closer to family here in my own country. When I daily face the terror of the void staring at me face to face it is my chance to push back and assert my will and imprint my soul upon this malleable world. And that my friends are beauty. It is the finding of renewed hope and growth when all else seems bleak and lost.
Achieving momentum starts with creating forward progress. Getting started is the most difficult part. It’s like the law of inertia: an object in motion tends to stay in motion, and an object at rest tends to stay at rest. Momentum is what happens when you get moving.
It can be harnessed, gathered and used as an incredibly transformation tool.
Getting into the cold waters is difficult but the momentum by trying, experimenting, taking a first step, forgiving yourself for slip-ups and then trying again. Plunge into whatever you’ve been putting off for “some day” and make today the day you begin. Imagine how incredible it will feel to let the current of momentum carry you from this one success towards another. Each can be a wave you ride to the next.
It can carry you like a strong current carries a fallen leaf. It can ignite your spirit and make you feel like you can do anything.
It is momentum – that invisible, universal force that can saturate your every choice, your every step, your every breath, and your every moment of resolve with vibrant, joyful energy. Momentum can surge you forward and it can pull you under. It goes with your flow, follows your lead and enhances your opportunity.
Take that first step in a direction of your own choosing, then with each bold statement, each strong stride; each clear-thinking choice let momentum joyously lift you higher and farther. Exceed your own expectations and strengthen your resolve to be who you were meant to be and nothing less. Don’t strive and stress – instead simplify and find success on your terms.
As I mentioned in my opening, every obstacle, blocks, turning and twists in our life throws an opportunity. It can be harnessed, gathered and used as an incredibly transformation tool.
Only Insurance in life is your mental attitude. Your compensation in life is measure by how you look into the opportunity around you.

On Leadership-1

Dammit! Why do these bad things always happen to me?
Problem: Bad things happen to everybody. If we dwell on them, they frustrate us and bring us down.
Solution: See bad things as part of the ebb and flow of life. Suffering is a part of the human condition – but it passes. All pain goes away, eventually. Meanwhile, don’t let it hold you back. Don’t dwell on bad things, but look forward towards something good in your future. And learn to take the bad things in stride, and learn from them. Bad things are actually opportunities to grow and learn and get stronger, in disguise.
You can’t do anything right! Why can’t you be like _____________?
Problem: This can be said to your child or your subordinate or your sibling. The problem? Comparing two people, first of all, is always a fallacy. People are different, with different ways of doing things, different strengths and weakness, different human characteristics. If we are all the same, we would be robots. Second, saying negative things like this to another person never helps the situation. It might make you feel better, and more powerful, but the truth is it hurts your relationship, it will actually make you feel negative, and it will certainly make the other person feel negative and more like to continue negative behaviour. Everyone is loser.
Solution: Take the mistake or bad behaviour of others as an opportunity to teach, show them how to do something. Second praise them for their behaviour, and encourage their success. Last, the most important, love them for who they are, and calibrate their difference.
Your work sucks. It’s super lame. You are moron and I hope you never reproduce.
Problem: I have actually gotten this comment before. It feels wonderful. However, let’s look at it not from the perspective of the person receiving this kind of comment but from the perspective of the person giving it. How does saying something negative like this help you? I guess it might feel good to vent if you feel like your time has been wasted. But really, how much of your time has been wasted? A few minutes, A few hours! And whose fault is that? The blogger or yours? In truth, making negative comments just keeps you in negative mindset. It’s also a good way make friends.
Solution: Learn to offer constructive solutions, first of all. Instead of telling someone their blog sucks, of that a post is lame, offer some specific suggestion for improvement. Help them get better. If you are going to take the time to make a comment, make it worth your time. Second, learn to interact with people in a more positive way – it makes others feel good and it make you feel better about yourself. And you can make some great friends this. That’s a good thing.
PHD-IN-COUNSELING-EDUCATION
Insulting People Back:
Problem: If someone insults you or angers you in some way, insulting them back and continuing your anger only transfer their problem to you. This person was probably having a bad day and took it out on you for some reason. If you reciprocate, you are now having a bad day too.  His u.problem has become yours. Not only that, but the cycle of insults can get worse and worse until it results in violence or other negative consequences – for both of you.
Solution: Let the insults or negative comments of others slide off you like Teflon. Don’t let their problem become yours. In fact, try to understand their problem more – why would someone say something like that? What problems are they going through? Having a little empathy for some not only make you understand that the ir comment is not about you, but make you feel better about yourself in the process.
I don’t think I can do this – I don’t have enough discipline. May be some other time.
Problem: If you don’t think you can do something, you probably won’t. Especially for the big stuff. Discipline has nothing to do with – motivation and focus has everything to do with it. And if you put stuff off for “some other time”, you will never get it done. Negative thinking like this inhibits us from accomplishing anything.

Solution: Turn your thinking around: you can do this! You don’t need discipline. Find ways to make yourself a success at your goal. If you fail, learn from your mistake, and try again. Instead of putting a goal off for later, start now. And focus on one goal at a time, putting all of your energy into it, and getting as much help from other as you can. You can really move mountain if you start with positive thinking.

Read the part-1

I am not saying following this is an insurance to success. But definitely saying not following this step towards failure.

Insurance to Win-1

Like success, failure is many things to many people. With Positive Mental Attitude, failure is a learning experience, a rung on the ladder, a plateau at which to get your thoughts in order and prepare to try again.

-->
10 Deadly Sins of Negative Thinking:

I will be happy once I have ______ (or once I earn X amount)
Problem: If you think you can’t be happy until you reach a certain point, or until your reach certain income, or have a certain type of house or car or office, you will be never happy. The elusive goal is always just out of reach. Once we reach those goals, we are not satisfied – we want more.
Solution: Learn to be happy with what you have, where, and who you are, right at this moment. Happiness doesn't have to be some state that we want to get to eventually – it can be found right now. Learn to count your blessing, and see the positive in your situation. This might sound simplistic, but it works.

I wish I were as____________ as (a celebrity, sportsperson and businessman).
Problem: We’ll never be as  pretty, as talented, as rich, as sculpted, as cool, as everyone else. There will always be someone better, if you look hard enough. Therefore, if we compare ourselves to others like this, we will always pale, and will always fail and will always feel bad about selves.  This is no way to be happy.
Solution: Stop comparing yourself to others, and look instead at yourself – what are your strengths, your accomplishments, your success, however small? What do you love about yourself? Learn to love who are you are, right jow, not who you want to become. There is good in each of us, love in each of us, and a wonderful human spirit in every one of us.

Seeing other becoming successful make jealous and resentful:
Problem: First, this assumes that only a small member of people can be successful. In truth, many, many people can be successful – in different ways.
Solution: Learn to admire the success of others, and learn from it, and be happy for them, by empathizing with them and understand what it must be like to be them. And then turn away from them, and look at yourself – you can be successful too, in whatever you choose to do. And even more, you already are successful. Look not at those above you in the social ladder, but those below you – there are always millions of people worse off then you, people who could not read this article or afford a computer, in the that light you are a huge success.

PHD-IN-COUNSELING-EDUCATION
I am miserable failure – I can’t seem to do anything right:
Problem: Everyone is a failure, if you look at it in certain ways.  Everyone has failed, many times, at different things. I have certainly failed so many times I cannot count them – and I continue to fail, daily. However, looking at your failures as failures only makes you feed bad about yourself. By thinking in this way, we will have a negative self-image and never move on from them.
Solution: See your successes and ignore your failure. Look back on your life, in the last month, or year, or 5 years. And try to remember your success. If you have trouble with this, start documenting them – keep a success journal, either in a notebook or online. Document your success  each day, or each week. When you look back at what you've accomplished, over a year, you will be amazed. It is an incredibly positive feeling.

I’m going to beat so-and-so no matter what – I’m better than him. And there’s no way I’ll help him succeed. – he might beat me.
Problem: Competitiveness assumes that there is a small amount of gold to be had, and I need to get it before he does. It makes us into greedy, back-stabbing, hurtful people. We try to claw our way over people to get to success, because of our competitive feeling. For example, if blogger wants to have more subscriber than another blogger, he may never link to or mention that other blogger. However, who is to say that my subscriber can’t also be yours? People can read and subscribe to more than one blog.
Solution: Learn to see success as something that can be shared, and learn that if we help each other out, we can each have a better chance to be successful. Two people working towards a common goal are better than two people trying to beat each other up to get to that goal. There is abundance rather than scarcity.

There are five more to come in the next blog. I am not saying following this is an insurance to success. But definitely saying not following this step towards failure.

The Action Plan

--> Too often some action takes us to inaction — the small doubt in the back of our mind and trying too hard for perfectionism and distractions by a phone call and an invitation to something that stops us from moving forward.

And while I’m no proponent of a whirling buzz of activity, I also believe people get lost in the distractions of the world and lose sight of what’s important, and how to actually accomplish their Something Amazing. A little self imposed  little rules of action can help to overcome from  this inaction— just some small reminders, things I’ve found useful but by no means invented, common-sense stuff that is often not common enough.

PERSONAL-INJURY-LAWYER
Just start: All the planning in the world will get you nowhere. You need to take that first step, no matter how small or how shaky. All long journeys started with a small step. My rule for motivating myself for morning walk is just jump into my track suits and lacing my sports shoes. . Instead if you think when to start, at what time to go, shall I listen walk or jog, while jogging shall I listen to some music, etc.etc.  only lead to inaction. Take it from me you will never go for that morning walk. Best is Start moving and plan while moving.

Kiss off the perfection: Perfectionism is the enemy of action and a friend of inaction.. Shoot it down immediately. You can’t let perfection stop you from doing something important. You can turn a bad draft into a good one, but you can’t turn plain paper into a good draft. So get going.

Deliberate your move: Be deliberate. Action doesn’t need to be done fast. In fact, that often leads to mistakes, and while perfection isn’t at all necessary, neither is making a ridiculous amount of mistakes that could be avoided with a bit of consciousness.

Step by steps. A small step always works.  Trying to chew off more than you can choke you Same way trying rush it up kill the action. Like a many little steps eventually scale the mountain.  And each step is a victory, that each one will compel you to further victories.

Talking isn’t action. Well, unless you’re a television broadcaster or your job is talking or the action you need to take is a presentation or speech or something, talking usually is just talking. Communication is necessary, but talking is not the substitute for action.

Get rid of Negative thinking:  Seriously, stop doing that first. Kick off  those thoughts. Well, OK, you can be distracted for a little bit, but you get the idea. Positive thinking, as corny as it sounds, really works. Self doubt, a feeling at the back of the mind  to quit? Keep remind  yourself that it’s OK to be distracted and that you can always get to it later? The self-assurance talk or self=talk we keep tell ourselves has a unique ability of turning thoughts into reality.
Planning/Meeting isn’t action. Sure, you need to plan and discuss. . Do it, so you’re clear about what you’re doing and it is conveyed to your team also in the meeting. . Just do it and finish it as quickly as you can. Get into the actual action as quickly as you can.

Reading about it isn’t action. You’re reading a blog about action. Ironic, I know. But let this be the last one. Now get to work! Yes reading an Insurance policy, is not going to insure your life, you have to take the insurance policy.

Increase Personal Productivity-2

Stabilization:

-->
“We never know what we’re going to get” - It’s hard to believe that the two bulky bruisers seated in front of us could probably tell, at a glance, the value of the jewellery we were wearing. But long-time fans of the reality show “Pawn Stars” would surely know what we’re talking about. After all, it’s Rick Harrison and son Corey’s job to know how much things are worth; it’s what makes them profitable and famous.

But this isn’t the case with service industry, even when they’re not as efficient as they could be, in the end there is an assurance that the service will perform as the customer expects. In office and service environments, the “product” is not as tangible, so it can be more difficult to assure the quality of the output.  In service environments in particular, the near real-time creation and consumption of a service can make quality assurance problematic.

If your office or service process is incapable of delivering a consistent output, then your lean effort must begin here.  Creating basic stability is critical issue for any service stream, without a stable and reliable service process it is impossible to sustain the lean objectives. Many experts consider the topic of stability to be the place where most companies to need to focus in order to begin.

·         Determine the actual line capacity and compare it to takt time
·         Identify the actual bottle neck of the line
·         Identify the six main types of losses in a production line
·         Calculate the impact of each different loss
·         Create a fact based understanding of the stability problem
·         Generate root cause insights
·         Create countermeasures to prevent recurrence
·         Implement key maintenance concepts over the life cycle of the equipment

Clearly just achieving this objective on some consistent basis will bring stability to your process or system.  In these situations, you’ll start fairly small, by clearly defining the needs of the customer, documenting them in simple ways (think checklists), and providing training to office and service personnel.

The Lean tools and techniques are just some visible manifestations of this mindset which isn’t easily grasped on a tour.  Ultimately, the result is streamlined flow of value to the customer, and improved profitability and competitiveness.

If your office or service process is capable of delivering a consistent output is the key to insurance for continuous compensation.

Office processes are composed of individual tasks. These processes are generally developed over many years and normally contain steps that are no longer required. A lean office is one where each of these processes has been evaluated and streamlined for maximum efficiency. Wasted movement is eliminated by locating the personnel necessary to perform the task together.

Increase Personal Productivity

Lean office is becoming a popular concept every day but what does it really mean?
-->

BETTER-CONFERENCING-CALLS
For me, Lean office delivers significant improvement in productivity, improved customer service, cost effectiveness through waste elimination and optimized utilization of office and administrative environments – such as man power available, IT, finance, procurement and a proper program management.

Since one of the key principles of lean thinking is to minimize the time between the customer order and the fulfillment of the order keeping in mind the lead time available. Most lean office initiatives are concerned exclusively with making value stream maps and creating a more efficient business process. That’s only part of the solution, but no matter how lean the system, if the people who work within it are inefficient, you’ll still have waste. It’s like relay race, you can make the baton hand off nice and clean, but if the runners are slow, they are going to slow.

The key to lean office is improving the efficiency first:

If you are losing money due to wasted effort and low productivity of knowledge workers, your office inefficiently leading to low work morale, and high workforce turnover. Dis organised office practices leads to irritating customers and losing customer base. In order to plug the waste we must map this issue first.

A boundary less Office’ is where cross-functional team members are located in close proximity without physical barriers which encourages seamless and direct communication and intense collaboration.  Office was responsible for performing time critical task. Work arrived before staff arrived at work but had to be completed on the day it arrived and sent out. Staff could not go home until the work for the day was completes.

Lean techniques are commonplace in world class manufacturing organisations and help them drive year on year improvements to quality delivery and cost. These techniques are increasingly applied in office environments with amazing results. Yes, the claims about performance are really true. Whenever I have used lean techniques in an office I have never failed to get over 20% performance improvements and usually much more than this.

We can then look at everything that happens in the office and ask ourselves the question,

“Is this what I am really here to do?”

If the answer is “yes” and what you are doing is actually directly useful for your customer then do more of it.

You spent a lot of time making sure that the Focused Office identifies who the real customer is and what you do for them. Adding value is everything you do that the customer wants you to do; everything else is waste. Eliminating or reducing waste means that more time is available to do something for your customer and will always result in an improved performance. An efficient office is an insurance for better compensation on your investments.

Microsoft Help

-->
ONLINECLASSES

Microsoft wants to change how we buy Microsoft Office software.  Instead of paying for the software once, Microsoft wants us to be paying for it monthly or annually.
Microsoft offers a variety of subscriptions for the latest version called Office 365.  This isn't cloud software. It still installs on your PC or Mac and the files will also be stored on your PC (though you can set it up to save to the cloud, too).
But the question is: what happens to your files if you decide to stop paying the subscription?
Microsoft does not delete them. It doesn't delete the Office software from your PC either. You can open them and look at them but you can't edit them.
This certainly isn't going to work well with computers that are not and can not be connected to the internet. It is already a big enough issue with Microsoft but subscriptions? Maybe for some but it won't work in the areas where I work. In this area, computers are connected to the internet on first boot, updated and activated. Then they are scanned for all sorts of "stuff" and disconnected from the outside world, never to be connected or updated again until the next refresh, usually about 10 to 15 years.
However, businesses have to be able to communicate via a compatible standard and MS may still be able to push its hostage ware for a while. Unfortunately for them, everything must come to an end at sometime, and it is just a matter of time before another Office Suite will come along that will be cheaper and more readily available, yet will have all of the necessary bells and whistles - then MS will be stuck with their collective heads in the clouds.
Consumers won't pay for it as a subscription and I think eventually businesses will look for other options as well. I have bought MS Office software before and love it, but I won't pay for it as a subscription. I realize that Microsoft is trying to fix a insurance for their profits in the quickly changing computing environment, but I don't think this will work. Microsoft Office is one of the reasons people went with Microsoft/Windows back in the 90's and the last decade. However, there are too many other options for people now and people no longer feel trapped into Microsoft products.

Anti Smoking

-->
How to quit smoking
MESOTHELIOMA-LAW-FIRM
I am an IT professional from Pune. I just read your article on 25 things that happen in your body when you smoke, and found it really interesting. It is hard to imagine the effect of smoking inside the body. I can see most of the facial changes like darkening of lips in myself. I want to know about two things:
  1. Will quitting smoking now make all the things that have gone wrong go back to as it was before?
  2. How can I quit smoking
Quitting smoking is the very first step to regaining your health. While not everything may be reversed or cured instantly, your body will slowly start regaining normalcy. For instance when you first stop smoking, you will notice that you will be able to taste food better, be more sensitive to smells, not have a dry mouth and be free of a sore throat.
According to a study, quitting has a number of other immediate and long term benefits. Here is how your body will benefit:
Within the first 20 minutes your heart rate and blood pressure drop down to normal levels. In the next 12 hours the carbon monoxide content in your blood becomes normal, and in the next two to twelve weeks the blood circulation to your lungs will increase and become better – improving the overall functioning of your lungs.
After a few months, this is what will happen:
Within one to nine months incessant coughing and shortness of breath will get better.
And finally, after a few years, you’ll notice changes in all your body’s functions. For instance; within 1 year your risk of coronary artery disease goes down by half, in 5 years your risk of suffering from a stroke reduces by almost half and after 10 years your lung cancer risk falls to 50% when compared to a smoker’s risk. Moreover you will also be at a lesser risk of suffering from cancers of the mouth, throat, oesophagus, bladder, cervix and pancreas.
And in 15 years you will be as healthy as a non-smoker. This time line — although general – can be bettered by making alterations in your lifestyle. You could start exercising, eating healthy and being stress free.
As an added bonus, the earlier you quit the better for you. A study found that if you quit at about 30 you can gain almost 10 years of life expectancy.
Now that you know how you will benefit, here is how you can do it:
Quitting is easier than you think – if you follow a simple plan. All you need to do is follow these five D’s of quitting – Delay, Distract, Drink water, Deep breaths and Discuss. Read more about the 5 D’s to start you on the path to quit smoking.

    Job Insurance

A cashier counts currency notes as customers wait inside a bank in Hyderabad

    -->
India might get one or two new private sector banks very soon. These banks, which will require several hundred employees, could recruit either fresh graduates or poach from rival banks. As existing banks also want to ramp up their operations, banking talent is expected to be the most in demand in the near future.

Institutes such as Manipal Global Education Services and TimesPro are catering to the needs of the industry and have tied up with banks to provide talent that is ready for industry roles.

Deepak Lamba, president, Times Centre for Learning, said they had 30 students in every centre. The first batch across campuses has passed out in February this year and 100 students have been placed with an average package of Rs 3 lakh. He added banks like Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank have participated in placement drives.

Lamba added a career in private banks was still not a mainstream career option compared to management and other degrees. "The influx of new banks will open up huge employment opportunities for young graduates. The demand for talent will see a huge upsurge for bank training courses," he explained.

    employee Performance Review

    DATA-RECOVERY-RAID
March is here and so are those much-awaited appraisals. Better Desig + Better Money = Happier, more productive you. But what if your appraisal isn't worth smiling at, leave alone laughing all the way to the bank? Can you turn things around to your advantage? Find out.
    1. Your salary goes up from peanuts to a few more peanuts. You’re likely to:
    a. Approach your boss when (s)he's in a good mood and assess your worth, contribution and commitments together.
    b. Be glad it didn't stay the same.
    c. Sulk, swear to mess up all your projects on purpose and start looking for a new job.
    2. While your colleagues get a promotion plus a pay hike; you genuinely feel like you've got a raw deal. You:

    a. Have an honest chat with your team mates. And knowing them (some of them, at least), they're likely to take up the matter with the big boss.
    b. Decide not to mingle with them during work hours and lunch/smoke breaks.
    c. Spread gossip about them and ask to be transferred to another department.
    3. The love of your life scores more brownie points at the workplace than you do. You:
    a. Have a fun bi%$#ing session about your boss with him/her.
    b. Don't talk about your appraisal, till (s)he does.
    c. Start having second thoughts. About your job. And him/her.
    4. The best part of being your own boss is:
    a. Being able to work at your own time and pace.
    b. Calling the shots.
    c. No more appraisals. Yay!

    Goal Setting

On a recent management course, about goal setting.
Asked one of the employee to volunteer, Told him “Stand here and your task is to
throw as many screwed-up pieces of paper as you can into that
waste bin close to his feet.

The employee stood up and, rather embarrassingly, screwed a few
pieces of paper up and threw them in the bin.

After one minute, asked “Had enough?”, to which
the person said “Yes thanks!” and gratefully returned to
    his chair.

The person had managed to screw-up and bin 12 pieces of paper.

A second volunteer was requested. This manager, a lady, was given
    her task.

“Your task is to throw as many pieces of screwed-up paper as
possible into this bin in one minute, and your target to beat is
12, The lady went about the task with enthusiasm and scored 15.

Then asked for a third volunteer. Addressing this person,
and said, “OK, you’ve seen what the others achieved. Do you
think you can beat them in one minute?”

“No problem!” said the third volunteer, and he began when the
    trainer started the stopwatch.

He managed 21 pieces in the same time as the other two.

The first volunteer objected to this. “That’s not fair…you
    didn’t give ME those rules!”

The second volunteer also voiced her opinion. “Yes, it isn’t
fair, because you didn’t give ME any choices, other than to
    beat one target.”

Then I had asked the third volunteer for his opinion.

“It was very fair”, he said. “I knew what I had to do and
by when, and I got a say in what target I thought I could meet. I
saw what was possible, set myself a higher target and knew that I

could achieve it. And I did!”

In goal-setting, we very often just set the target and expect
team members to achieve it. But how many of us are asked to
achieve a task without being involved in the big picture, or
fully understanding ‘the rules’? Or we see any insurance or compensation

in the whole idea. What might our team be
capable of if they were allowed to set targets they thought were
stretching and achievable? How much more ownership would they
experience if they were involved in the goal-setting up front?

Goat setting is your insurance to better compensation.
